Mimbres Valley fine art photographer Robert Medina Cook honored with three awards

SILVER CITY, NM -- For the second year in a row, The Smithsonian-affiliated Hubbard Museum of the American West gave the First Place Award in its 17^th Annual Fall American Photography Exhibition to fine art photographer Robert Medina Cook, native New Mexican, now a resident of the Mimbres Valley. The winning photograph is entitled “Resurrection." Two of Medina Cook’s other entries were also given awards.  “Church at Las Trampas” was chosen for a Third Place award, and “Adobe Moon” was given an Honorable Mention.

In 2007, Medina Cook’s image entitled “Ancientlight at Pecos” was the recipient of the Hubbard’s First Place award, and was also purchased by the Museum for its permanent Collection.  Medina Cook was also given awards for two additional entries in 2007, one for third place and one an honorable mention. 

This year’s Fall American Photography Exhibition will be on display in the Museum’s Green Tree Gallery beginning Saturday, September 27^th and will continue thru December 26^th, 2008.

The Hubbard Museum, in 2000, became the first museum in New Mexico to be accepted into the Smithsonian’s Affiliate Program. The competition supports the museum’s mission of "collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history and culture of the American West."

Medina Cook, who was featured in an eight-page article, "The Ethereal Eye of Robert Medina Cook," in the September 2007 issue of New Mexico Magazine,  was also a recent finalist in the photography exhibit “ The Uncontainable Image, 2008”, an exhibition sponsored by KTAOS Radio and Five Magazine in Taos, New Mexico.

Medina Cook is presently represented by several galleries throughout New Mexico, including Jezebel Fine Art Gallery of Madrid. Several of his images have also been featured in regional, national, and international publications.
